November 2013: USC and Turkey

Saturday November 16, 2013

University of Southern California vs Leland Stanford Junior University

USC started the football season with mixed results and Haden finally fired Kiffen to the delight of the alumni. Coach Orgeron took over and was getting us back on track.  This was a big game and ESPN was doing Game Day from the campus.  In the past they has always done it at the Coliseum which is really just across the street past the museums.

We drove up early to Connie and Russ's house then headed to Los Angeles.  We arrived early and walked on campus then had lunch at the Founder's Club in the Galen Center.  We got a lot of free USC stuff at the various sponsor's booths.  Can never have enough USC stuff!

The game started at 5 pm so it was cold for us Southern Californians.  We are not use to the cold weather that grips most of our nation in the winter.

Luke and Sawyer, already Trojan fans.

Thanks to my connections were were in the top row.  I liked it.  I could stand all game and the seats were actually great to see the plays open on the field.  Bridget bought me that hat last Christmas and she made the scarves a few years ago.

USC beats #4 Stanford 20-17.    Then something happened that has never been seen at USC.

We stormed the field after the game.  Pure joy!  USC is back, almost.  We stumbled this year against Neuter Dame and Fucla but certainly not what the NCAA was hoping when they put the sanctions on us.  Too bad the NCAA doesn't apply their sanctions equally, but we showed them!

My new favorite shirt bought today.

We stopped at IHOP on the way back to Connie and Russ's house for a late night celebration.

Good times.

Thursday November 28, 2013 Thanksgiving Day

Bridget and I were invited to Connie and Russ's house for Thanksgiving Dinner.  Of course Christine and Betsy were there.

We had such a great time.  We had wonderful food and drinks all day.  We watched football of course. After dinner we had an excellent game night.  Too much fun.

                                            Ollie was there too!
                                              Excellent
Rusty is a much underrated chef.

September 2013: Depeche Mode and Hanson

Sunday September 22, 2013

Bridget said she could get free tickets to Depeche Mode and did I want to go?  Of Course!  It was at Sleep Train Amphitheartre in Chula Vista.

Crystal Castles was the opening act.  http://crystalcastles.com/

Light of God dimming weak
Nothing's wrong go back to sleep
Lost the will at infancy
Drown them in charity
Lend them comfort for sorrow
Enthusiasm they borrow
I can clean impurity
Wash away with kerosene
                             Crystal Castles

Not too bad for electronic music.

Then up was Depeche Mode-

Welcome to my world
Step right through the door
Leave your tranquilizers at home
You don't need them anymore
All the drama queens have gone
And the devil got dismayed
He packed up and fled this town
His master plan delayed

It is amazing Dave Gahan is still alive with all his demons.  The concert was really good and it was great to see them live doing old and new songs.

Girl of sixteen, whole life ahead of her
Slashed her wrists
Bored with life, didn't succeed
Thank the Lord for small mercies
Fighting back the tears, mother reads the note again
Sixteen candles burn in her mind
She takes the blame, it's always the same
She goes down on her knees and prays
I don't want to start
Any blasphemous rumors
But I think that God's
Got a sick sense of humor
And when I die
I expect to find Him laughing

September 24, 2013  Hanson  Yikes!

Bridget got more free tickets to the House Of Blues and we had seats (a plus) instead of having to stand.  There was a mixture of concert goers.  A lot of Mother/Daughters, but enough guys too.  Everyone there seemed to know all the lyrics and were singing along.

You have so many relationships in this life,
But only one or two will last.
You go through all the pain and strife,
Then you turn your back and they're gone so fast.
Oh yeah. They're gone so fast.
Oh, so hold on to the ones who really care,
In the end they'll be the only ones there.
When you get old and start losing your hair,
Can you tell me who will still care?
Can you tell me who will still care? Oh care,
MMMBop, ba duba dop ba do bop,
Ba duba dop ba do bop,
Ba duba dop ba do. Oh yeah,
MMMBop ba duba dop ba do bop,
Ba duba dop ba do bop,

Back in the day.

Now

She s about to walk away
So if you re gonna make her wanna stay
Tell her she s your moon and sun
Tell her that she s always been the one
You ve gotta say it from the heart
Cause she will know a fake right from the start
A girl like that deserves the best
So you ve got to show her (show her!) that you re not like all the rest
It s about time that you put your cards back on the table
It s about time that you show her you re willing and able
It s about time that you get the girl back
That you get the girl back on your side
You ve got to get the girl back, get the girl back
You ve got to get the girl back
                                              Hanson

A music video for the single included actresses Nikki Reed and Kat Dennings, as well as Drake Bell and Drew Seeley, who are all fans of the band.[

This thing is built like war machine
Burning up red hot like kerosene
This wrecking ball is about to drop
Once we start rolling we'll never stop
You'd better run and hide
'Cause we're about to play with fire
Were not turning around this time, lets get fired up
Were not turning around this time, lets get fired up
Game, set, match!
Dont pause, dont bluff, just play to win
This timber box is set to blow
Light the fuse, watch them fall like dominoes
                                         Hanson

Hanson has sold over 16 million records worldwide and have had 8 top 40 albums and 6 top 40 singles in the US.  Who knew.  They are now recording under their own label.  They have grown up, had kids and continue to make music on their terms.  They are pretty good musicians too, each playing several instruments during the concert.  I came away a fan and really like their latest CD- Anthem.

SAWYER CREW INGRAM

Sunday September 1, 2013

We were leaving Texas today.  Sawyer had a high fever and had to go to Children's Hospital.  Brian, Jen and Sawyer took off to the hospital.  We watch Luke, then Courtney came up.  It was time to go.  Neither one of us could stay so with a heavy heart we left Texas.
Photo: Not how I pictured spending today or the next 2 days. My newest and littlest love Sawyer is fighting an infection of some kind in the hospital. Any and all prayers are welcome! Thanks!

Sawyer spent the next 2 days fighting an infection.  He is tough and got to go home.

Ponies and the Browns

Sunday August 11, 2013

Connie, Russ, Bridget and I went to Del Mar.  Connie ordered the tickets for tables so we could eat and drink all day.  We gambled, ate, drank, laughed and had a lot of fun.  Below is the only picture I can find of that day.

Ponies and music.  Sweet.  On Fridays in the summer the first post at Del Mar  is at 4 pm not the normal     2 pm. Left work a little early and  placed a few bets, not many winners but we had fun.  After the ponies were done, we walked over to the stage for the concert.

Forty days and forty nights
I waited for a girl like you to come and save my life
All the days I waited for you
You know the ones who said I'd never find someone like you

And you were out of my league
All the things I believed
You were just the right kind
Yeah, you were more than just a dream
You were out of my league
Got my heartbeat racing
If I die don't wake me
Cause you are more than just a dream

From time to time I pinch myself
Because I think my girl mistakes me for somebody else
And every time she takes my hand
All the wonders that remain
Become a simple fact

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bb6cBKE3WzQ

Don't come back anytime I've already had your kind.
This is your pay back, money grabber.

Don't come back anytime, you've already run me dry.
This is your pay back, money grabber.

Teardrops fade.
Then I saw, blue hands in the pocket.
'Cause you were always made to want it all.
But now you got to make it on your own.
This ain't your home.
So I'm showing you the door.
Wave goodbye now, it's time for you to go.

Don't comeback anytime, I've already had your kind.
This is you pay back, money grabber.
